What more could one ask for?

Although today’s society appears to be driven by a capitalist economy (where short-term gains appear to be outweigh long term objectives), there is something that I find enticing about a company that attempts to balance the conflict between making money and doing good in the world.

Tonight (or more appropriately last night) we had dinner with our equivalent of a CEO, Roy. Part of his brief described the vision that he had for the company when he first started. Roy’s blatant honesty about the concerns and issues that we may face in the future is something that appears to be a part of our corporate culture. It’s a sort of “let’s the get issues out of the open so they can be dealt with” attitude that many companies appear to lack and hence suffer from.

It’s first time that I’ve really believed a good number of my career years could be spent in the one place. Perhaps it’s the affinity I have with my colleagues or it’s the interaction with some of the best people in our industry on a daily basis that may explain the way that I feel about this company. To have this golden opportunity at this stage of my career makes me feel extremely privileged and I don’t think I could trade it for anything at all (even for financial independence!)

The years that I will spend with this company will certainly be treasured every moment of the way, because I can only think of the number of other environments where the intellectual and professional stimulants will never reach the same standards.
