A bit of a busy week this one with Lana and I returning from Paris Tuesday afternoon and doing shows two nights in a row and then me flying out for Dusseldorf on Friday. You’ve gotta love London. Sadly Lana left to return back to Oz on Thursday : ( so we celebrated with one of my favourite cocktails in the world at TGIF – the Oreo Cookie cocktail. Okay – not the official name but it is damn tasty. It was sad to see her go – but I’m sure she’ll be back. London has a way of doing that to you.

Met up with Lana at Heathrow for our trip to Paris (my first). It was really great to see her – she had been traveling for about 5 weeks before meeting on Saturday so she was just a tiny bit tired. Poor thing. Still it was fantastic to see a friend from back home. She’d been to Paris previously so it was also good to go with someone who’d been there before.

What an awful week of walking. I don’t think I even averaged over 8k this week. Don’t have any excuse really. I could try and blame it on the weather as London actually got down to minium of 0 degrees on Saturday (average for the day was 2!). But other than that extremely freakily cold day temps have been hanging around 7-15 degrees. I’m of two minds whether to wish for snow or not. If it does snow I’m sure that London will crap itself. I mean, if mere leaves on the railway line are enough to cause massive delays on the tube, can you imagine what would happen to transportation as a whole if it snowed?!! Perhaps I’ll save my wishes for snow in New York instead.

Slight decrease from my average last week of 11,780 to 11,118. Still, it wasn’t too bad an effort. Going for walks at lunch or going out after work really seems to make a difference to the steps I take in a day. Most of Saturday’s effort was the result of walking for hours in Kensington Garden on a gorgeous Saturday morning taking photos for my travel writing and photography class. It really was a beautiful Autumn day.

Considering how much time I spent sitting down this week (with movies and work) I was happy to see an increase in my average steps per day (going from 11,715 last week to 11,780) but again only thanks to an extraordinary effort on Saturday and to some extent Friday.

Day Steps Comments
Monday 16,789
Tuesday 4,850 Was stuck in a team building day for work all day so no opportunity to get out. I mean I guess I could have made an effort once I got home but to be honest all I wanted to do was go to sleep!
Wednesday 10,231
Thursday 16,413 Some late night shopping with E and dinner at Strada … finally! They have a fab tomato and pesto bread starter and pizzas are on wonderfully thin bases.
Friday 17,062
Saturday 15,440
Sunday 3,702 Slightly traumatised by Saturday’s Oxford Street visit. The only reason I managed to get to 3,702 was cause I went to see that fantastic movie, Strings.

An above average week this week saw me take approximately 11,450 steps per day. Notable events this week included my good friends, Elvira and Andrew, finally moving into their Bayswater home and also the start of Ramadan – the Month of Fasting.

I am not a Muslim, so don’t observe Ramadan myself, but a couple of people in the office are and its interesting to observe their practices during this period – fasting during the day and eating small meals at night. Its an important time for spiritual contemplation and visiting with friends and family. On the second night of Ramadan (Saturday), Rehana and I were supposed to go out to a friend of hers who was throwing a gig at some club in Liverpool Street. However, in keeping with Ramadan Rehana didn’t feel it was appropriate to be partying so we went out for dinner at Nandos and a very long walk after dinner (due to over eating) instead.

Sunday saw me running around talking with and taking photos of various artists on Bayswater Road as research for my travel writing piece. Unfortunately, even though I met some lovely people, I am still struggling for inspiration. Hey – but at least I did some good walking!

Well, not a bad week. Saturday being the low point but I think on average I think I still managed to reach 10K a day. Sunday was a particulary good day of walking as I was walking up and down Bayswater road doing research for the piece I have to prepare for my travel writing/photography class. I met some lovely artists including David James and one “Jimmy Smith” (who wished to remain anonymous).
