27 Dresses

Sandra’s latest in movie premieres was the romcom 27 Dresses. Every now and then we ladies need to indulge in a bit of a chick-flick and I’m not ashamed to admit that I really enjoyed this one.

We open the movie to find Katherine Heigl (known best for Knocked Up and Grey’s Anatomy) hopping back and forth across Manhattan as maid of honour to two good friends in two separate weddings. This paints the picture for her life – the perenniel bridesmaid. This is witnessed by wedding columnist Malcolm (James Marsden) who, though writing the most romantic of columns, is actually a cynic at heart. He somehow ends up with her diary and is shocked to find just how many weddings she has been in (and is going to be in) so he decides to write a story on her, masked behind writing a story on her younger sister who in the meantime has taken up a whirlwind romance with Heigl’s long term crush.

The storyline is fairly predictable and cliche – boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl but girl already has a crush on another boy, girl’s sister snatches boy from girl, girl’s heart breaks, girl takes revenge on sister, girl has remorse and realises she loves the first boy, girl patches things up with sister, and finally happy endings for all. But aside from that this is a genuinely enjoyable movie. There’s laughter, there’s heartbreak, there’s crying (from me mainly – ha ha) and best of all there are some really killer lines in the movie. Oh and the 27 dresses in the closet are also pretty cool and I liked the credits – very smart.

Fantastic 4 Premiere

You may have seen me at the Fantastic 4 premiere last night … being crushed at the barriers by horny men lusting after Jessica Alba – but more on that later.

Well, I had plenty of time to waste before it all started as we were all waiting for the premiere to begin (by the way the weather conspired to throw everything at us including the hot hot sun and then the cold cold rain). There was some drama around me (not my fault I promise!) First of all there were some very ballsy Spanish looking girls who pushed their way in front of this little boy. The father (go Dad) told him not to let them push him around. This offended the girls apparently and they started mouthing off including something about tehem not being able to speak English – joke was on them though as he spoke some Spanish. Then there was a hot Polish girl who I could see two sleazy men sizing up and then one was so blatant as to grab her. Ick. But anyway, all very entertaining before the final event.

The premiere started off okay with people generally behaving themselves. I survived Ioan Gruffud’s (Mr Fantastic) walk down the path but then along comes Hurrican Alba. Good lord. Talk about driving men mad. Suddenly there was a wave of men pushing to get near her. Note to self – get a good position but get body guards whenever there is a hottie in the film! After that things seemed to settle down .. but after checking out Chris Evans I decided the rain had won and I left. It was fun while it lasted.

War of the Worlds – a premiere

Tom and Kate The heat of yesterday must have taken it out of me because today it was all I could do to leave the house! I didn’t end up leaving the Tomhouse until about 6pm this evening. I think it got to a top of 32-33 degrees. Phew. I went into Leceister Square where Tom was having his War of the Worlds premiere. I wanted to go in earlier but the thought of getting on to the tube and standing around waiting for the premiere to happen in the heat of the day was just too much. As a result, although I was in the square, the only thing I saw of Tom (and Katie) and Dakota was on the TV screens set up around the place (I didn’t even see the water squirting incident.) The square was absolutely heaving but then again it always is premiere or not. So far I’m doing so good with premieres – I’m 0/2 so far (remember Hitch?). Next time I guess …

Hitch Premiere

I thought it was good timing that I had arranged to see the play Whose Life Is It Anyway? tonight as I could then double up and attend the UK premiere of Will Smith’s new movie, Hitch. Unfortunately I had to leave at around 7.15pm to go the play and I missed all the fun of the premiere.

Premiere 01 Premiere 02 Premiere 03
Premiere 04 It was a bitterly cold evening and lots of dedicated fans had started lining the red carpet from 5pm. I’m not sure how they coped with the cold. I was only there from 6pm and standing for an hour and I was still absolutely frozen. Despite the fact I had to leave early – it was still exciting and radio interviews (with the crowd) were happening all around me so it wasn’t too bad. I’ll just have to make sure for next time that I don’t double-book myself!
